Elena Karras

M.D. Candidate (2025)

Elena Karras

Elena Karras is a second year Doctor of Medicine (MD) student at the University of Queensland-Ochsner Clinical School. She received her Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Northwestern University, where she majored in the Classics with concentrations in Ancient Greek and Latin.

She has varied interests in internal medicine, pediatrics, and hematology/oncology. In Brisbane, she worked at the Cancer Alliance Queensland, where she reviewed pathology reports and assessed outcomes for patients with triple-negative breast cancer. In Chicago, she worked at the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center on a project to develop a novel therapeutic agent for acute myeloid leukemia.

Outside of medicine, Elena is keen on history and enjoys reading texts from the Byzantine Empire. She also enjoys learning languages, and although far from proficient, has taken a particular interest in studying modern Greek, Italian, Spanish, and Romanian. While in Brisbane, she also picked up a new hobby, SCUBA diving, which allowed her to explore the Great Barrier Reef and Queensland’s incredible coast.

Through CAAMSA, Elena is excited to continue to collaborate with future physicians around the world.
